Change is Good…
How many times have we heard that and wanted to scream. But you know…it’s true. Change is good. Change is opportunity. What isn’t touted much is that change is hard. Change takes work.
There has been a lot of change at PMQD lately. I recently walked away from corporate America to focus on my entrepreneurship full time. I have dragged my family into the inherent risk that this poses, but so far, we’re doing ok. It’s been 6 months and we still have the house and we’re eating regularly…so I guess we can’t complain much!
Being your own boss requires a ton of discipline. Everyone says “It must be nice not having someone telling you what to do!” Well, yes, I do…my customers demand a lot, the shops want good classes and a prepared teacher, the guilds want interesting programs and workshops. That all takes a ton of work. And you have to fit it all into a jam packed schedule of traveling, shows, classes, deadlines. It can be a whirlwind!
Do I regret giving up a structured corporate job…that I could walk away from at 5 p.m. everyday and not look back until the next morning? Not on your life! It’s different not having the stability that an outside job provides, but it’s exhilarating to experience successes, overcome failures, and wake up the next day with a clean canvas to start anew.
Change is good, and I am working hard to make it happen.
